Music

Music brings so much happiness to lots of people. In St Ailbe’s N.S we encourage all children to play a musical instrument. All children are taught to play a musical instrument in our school. Junior infants start with the tin whistle. As the children move up through the classes they are encouraged to play different instruments such as violin, banjo, concertina, bodhrán etc.

We enter the Tipperary Fleadh ceol competition annually. Children from 3rd class up avail of the after school music classes in Terms 2 & 3 in preparation for the competition. Classes are facilitated by Alan Finn, Ms Hartigan and Mrs Finnan.

We are delighted to have Alan Finn teaching music in our school. Alan is an accomplished musician and has won the All Ireland Fleadh medal playing with his own band The Shandrum Céilí Band. He has also won medals previously in the All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil with bands that he teaches in Freemont and as a performer himself.

Our under 12 group successfully progressed to the Munster Fleadh Ceoil a few years ago. The confidence, creativity and pride that music instils in our children is evident when you walk the corridors of our school especially on Wednesdays when whistles, bodhráns, concertinas, banjos, flutes, harps, guitars and mandolins can be heard.

The music is enhanced further through the Community Comhaltas classes held in the school for two terms each year.
